Joran The Princess Of Snow And Blood “The Enemy Within” Review

Joran The Princess Of Snow And Blood “The Enemy Within” is the third episode of Joran Princess Of Snow and Blood. Unlike episode 2 this is more of an info dump episode. Taking on a much slower pace. However it is full of plot twists. Some huge, some you can kinda see coming but it was a wild ride all the same.

The Cleaner

From the beginning the show has us guessing by clearing up that the head of Nue, Kuzuhara, was the one who ordered the killing of the Treasurer. The guy is obviously dodgy, he has been the whole time but this seems to be the first time Sawa seems to accept it. Later we see Makoto give Sawa advice to stop the sister act with Asahi and send her away to a temple somewhere. Unfortunately she listens to his advice. Gives Asahi directions and money to get there and tells her she’ll kill her herself if Asahi is still there when she comes back.

Meanwhile, all of Nue corner “The Cleaner.” A man who works in the graveyard undercover to get rid of the bodies they leave behind. And accuse him of being a traitor. And selling information to Janome. He swears he knows nothing about it and causes an explosion to get away. Makoto says he has a sprained ankle so he stays behind whilst Elena and Sawa give chase underground. Hiding in the coffin, Makoto unveils “The Cleaner” and makes it clear he knew he was there from the beginning. It’s heavily hinted that Makoto put all of the evidence they find there in order to frame him. Next thing we know “The Cleaner” is dead.

Betrayal

Back to the HQ and Kuzuhara is privately rowing with Makoto. He asks why he killed the Cleaner when his job was just to unveil the traitor. His replies are weak and get him nowhere, Kuzuhara loses his temper and cuts Makoto’s shirt open, threatening him to remember who he works for. It’s then that another twist is revealed. Makoto is a she not a he. Kuzuhara knows it too. And it’s hinted that he’s the only one who knows.

Meanwhile Sawa goes home and finds blood and a small handprint. And The bag that she gave to Asahi. She panics and runs to find her. Whilst elsewhere Janome has Asahi and is using her to bring Sawa to him. Out from the shadows comes Makoto, who claims “things are all going to plan.”

Review

God this episode is so good! I didn’t even include all of the twists and turns, just the major ones. It was full of them! I’m at a point when I don’t know who to trust. So many questions are bubbling. Does Sawa know how deep the organisation’s betrayal goes? If so, is she just as manipulative as them? Is Janome working with Kuzuhara secretly? More importantly what’s special about Sawa’s clan that got Janome interested to begin with?

The questions and betrayals keep coming. No-one is nice or kind they’re all dodgy and it makes for a massively dramatic and interesting episode!
