It’s only the second day in the opening weekend of Universal’s Furious 7, but it’s proving to be huge. Friday alone, the film brought in more than $67.3 million dollars and is projecting to take in $150 million domestically on weekend one alone. This is the largest opening of a movie in North America since 2013 and the biggest April opening of all time.
Furious 7 is currently ranked as the 10th best opening, surpassing movies such as The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight, which both brought in around $67.2 million each on their opening night. If you take into account the money that will be taken in worldwide, the opening weekend looks like it will be well over $300 million by the end of Sunday.
Originally, the movie was set to debut in the summer of 2014, but with the untimely death of Paul Walker, it got pushed back.
