Revenge
Revenge was a drama television series created by Mike Kelley, which debuted on September 21st 2011 on ABC. The plot is inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo but from a female perspective. The series ran for 4 seasons (89 episodes), with the final series airing on May 10th 2015.
What’s it about?
Without giving too much away, a young woman named Emily Thorne, comes to the Hamptons and rents a beach house next door to the mansion of the wealthy Grayson family. Emily is actually Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed by the Graysons for treason when she was a little girl. After a lengthy trial, he is imprisoned for life, and was murdered in prison. Amanda was separated from him and spent most of her time in a juvenile correctional facility. She now returns to the Hamptons as an adult to get revenge on those who wronged her father and her.
The show focuses on Emily’s plot to destroy everyone involved in her father’s imprisonment.
Who’s In it?
The shows main protagonist is Emily Thorne who is played by Emily Van Camp, who can now be seen in The Resident. Madeline Store, portrays the antagonist Victoria Grayson. Nick Wechsler (Dynasty), Josh Bowman, Gabriel Mann, Christa B Allen and Henry Czerny (Quantico) also have main cast roles.
Trivia
- Josh Bowman who plays Daniel Grayson is engaged to Emily Van Camp. They began dating in 2011 before becoming engaged in 2017.
- Marc Blucas (Buffy) was meant to play Amanda’s father, but was forced to drop out due to his commitment on the tv show Necessary Roughness.
- A Revenge graphic novel, published by Marvel Comics, was published in 2014. It explores the origins of Emily Thorne.
- Revenge was filmed on Stage 25 at the Manhattan Beach Studios.
- Helen Hunt directed 2 episodes.
- There is a Turkish remake called Intikam.
- Madeline Stowe has never visited the Hamptons in real life.
