Fifty Shades Sequel Has Found Its Writer

Jamie Dornan Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey fans can sit back and breathe a sigh of relief.  EL James has found a writer she is willing to work with for the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker.

After the exit of original screen writer, Kelly Marcel, it was unknown as to who would write the next script.  It was announced today, through The Hollywood Reporter, that Niall Leonard will be coming on board.  Leonard, a British author and screenwriter himself, is the husband to Fifty Shades author EL James.  His earlier works include British television series Air Force One is Down and Wire in the Blood, along with the Crusher book series.

Leonard was involved in writing the script for Fifty Shades, but was not credited.

“Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty,” says producer Michael De Luca in a statement to THR.

Originally, the rumor was that James had wanted to pen the script herself.  Seeing as though her husband has experience, I would think there would be no problem with the pair working together.

Now, we just have to wait to see who will be the next director and what happens with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson‘s negotiations.
