CW Seed’s Animated Constantine Debuts First Five Episodes

CW Seed’s Animated Constantine Debuts First Five Episodes

Finally! New Constantine!

CW Seed-along with Matt Ryan- premiered the animated Constantine at Wondercon this weekend. Five of the shorts were released, and we watched them all!

This debut occurred right after Legends of Tomorrow announced John Constantine as a series regular if the show is renewed.

Constantine is back, and closer to the Hellblazer comic character than ever before.

The new webisodes follow Constantine and Chas as they hunt down the demon responsible for Chas’s daughter’s coma.

New Characters

CW Seed

Asa The Nightmare Nurse. She shagged John.

One of Constantine’s former(Are any of his flames ever truly former?) flames, a creature named Asa The Nightmare Nurse sets John on the right path. Asa protects Trish’s body as John and Chas fly to LA.

She also is a sneaky little devil, getting information from Chas’s estranged wife, Renee. She them wipes her memory.

The Demon Beroul

CW Constantine

Beroul. Yep, he’s an SOB.

Beroul is a disgusting demon made of cancer tissue. He lives in LA, and wants a monopoly on the souls eager to be corrupted there. He wants John to eliminate all of his competition in exchange for Trish’s soul.

Will John agree? Will Chas get down from the top of that building? How will John do what he is asked to do?

Thoughts and Whatnots

This storyline is based on the “All His Engines” story arc from Hellblazer.

Chas’s daughter is named Trish here. In the comic, that is Chas’s granddaughter. His daughter is Geraldine.  In the comic, Renee is an overweight cuckold, always at odds with John. Not super pleasant. These aren’t the only changes, of course. But changes are necessary for plot development and I am good with it because JOHN CONSTANTINE IS BACK.

I really miss Charlie Halford’s Chas, even if only the voice. Yes, Chas is British in the comics. But Charlie Halford, y’all.

Love the introduction of Asa the Nightmare nurse. Tough and can stand toe to toe with John(horizontally or vertically). I like her much better than the NBC version of Zed, who acted more like a Mary Sue/deus ex machina/Bella Swan, forced love interest. Hell, I like her better than the comic version of Zed.
