Combatants Will Be Dispatched “To Be A Hero” Review

Combatants Will Be Dispatched “To Be A Hero” is the fifth episode of the Combatants anime. Following on from episode 4 Agent 6 and Alice are forced to leave the kingdom. Snow shows them mercy by allowing them to live but they have to pretty much disappear. Agent 6 has no problem with that but he is slightly missing his old team.

Plot

With Agent 6 and Alice now MIA the Kingdom is in a real bind. They’ve lost valuable assets in war because of Snow’s selfishness as even she notices. She berates herself a lot for what she did as Agent 6 is also fighting the urge to go and rescue the kingdom. After he hears the Demon Lord’s army is going for a full out attack because the Chosen One has gone missing. He’s conflicted and helps out in the background. Doing pervy things to get evil points to spend on land mines and other weapons.

Snow catches him in the act though and he discovers the next day he’s got a new nickname: Zipperman. It does suit him I guess. With Alice concluding that in this world it defies logic so something must’ve happened to make the typical story go off course. That of course being Agent 6’s taking of the Tower. The hero was meant to lose there so he could get stronger over time. Every time Agent 6 does something good for the kingdom it turns out hurting rather than helping. And this episode took full advantage to highlight that.

The Demon Lord’s army are caught in the landmines and it delays them a lot but they end up at the gates to the kingdom anyway. With Heine openly admitting that she’s more scared of Agent 6 than any chosen one anyway. The episode ends with Agent 6 and Alice with a big choice to make. Will they help and fight or run?

Review

This was a great episode. Not only did it reveal more of Agent 6’s and Snow’s like for each other but it showed just how much the kingdom relied on him. They’re lost and confused without Agent 6 and Alice but no one will admit to it but they obviously get called out. The same humour is there. Moments that really work to build character are made even better by having those same characters then shatter that illusion.

I think it’s clear what’s gonna happen. They’ll fight eventually but not in a hero way. After all, if Agent 6 does anything heroic it goes pear shaped so it’s best to stay villains. I am hyped for episode 6! More so for more Alice and Agent 6 and hopefully to see the old team together again.
