The Walking Dead: Mid Season Finale

Last night’s The Walking Dead did not disappoint one bit, giving viewers a little taste of everything. The episode opened up with Rick chasing Officer Bob, who had lied and knocked out Sasha in order to make a run for it. Well, he didn’t get very far, Rick hit him with the police car, got out and made no attempt to negotiate, rather just a single shot to the head was just enough to shut him up.

Back at the church, Michonne and Carl were unaware that Father Gabriel ditched the flock in search for answers. He was on a stupid mission to see if the Terminites had really been at the school. What did Father Gabriel find? Let’s see, walkers pounding on the school doors to get out, Mary’s Bible, and what was left of Bob’s charred leg. In the mist of this realization that what Rick and the group said about the cannibals were true, the walkers break free, and guess who’s for dinner? The brilliant Father Gabriel heads back to the church, leading all the walkers his way. What a genius! Begging for Michonne and Carl to open the doors, Carl breaks the barriers open, and let’s him in, but the walkers over power the barriers and bust in as well. Father Gabriel leads them back to the floor boards where he originally escaped. Luckily they make it outside unscathed, but their shelter is gone, yet again.

Just then, Abraham and his crew pulls up, blocking the church doors, so the walkers can’t escape. It’s a quick yet bittersweet reunion as Michonne fills them in on Beth and Carol’s whereabouts. Maggie is just overjoyed knowing her sister is alive. With that the entire group heads to Grady Memorial.

Speaking of Grady Memorial, Beth ends up getting caught in the middle of a nasty fight between the Dawn and another one of her idiot cops that like to push old men to the ground just for fun. As Dawn and O’Donnell were going head to head it was actually Beth that pushed him down the elevator shaft to his death. Little does Beth know that all the while Rick and the group are planning to get her and Carol out by negotiating the 2 cops their holding captive, as a tradeoff.

As the negotiating is underway, and it looks like everything is going to work out, however, Dawn also wants Noah. Beth was never going to allow that to happen. Back when they made their attempt to escape Grady, and Noah got away, the camera focuses on Beth smiling. She was happy to see Noah get away, she wanted that for him. Now, during a tense moment to save his life again from the insane Dawn, Beth makes a very bold decision.  As Beth approaches Dawn, she stabs her with the scissors she has hidden in her cast, and Dawn shoots and kills her, a brutal bullet to the head. In that instant, a shocked Daryl kills Dawn point-blank.

It was so hard to watch Daryl carry her for the last time as they’re exiting the hospital. Worse than that, was watching Maggie, as their pulling up to the hospital. Maggie’s hopefully smile turns into a hellish scream as she realizes her sister’s body lies lifeless in Daryl’s arms. All hope is gone, and all that is left is pure agony.

Beth will be missed. She has transformed so much since we first met her in season 2. She went from a helpless, scared teenager, to a strong woman, a survivor. Rest in Peace Beth Greene.

For those that didn’t change the channel right after, we got to see a bonus clip of Morgan, who comes across the now abandoned church and the map that Abraham had left for Rick. Guess we’ll have to wait until February to see where that story line is headed.
