Soundtrack Sunday – Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) Yes that’s right we are looking at one of my all time favourite films this week.  A film that has a soundtrack that not only holds a Number 1 hit single but music that really shows the mood.

The Plot

Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner – The Bodyguard) returns from the crusades along with a companion he saved from execution.  His companion Azeem (Morgan Freeman – The Shawshank Redemption) stays with him to return the debt and honour.  As they return to his childhood home they find that Robin’s Father is dead and his lands are now owned by someone else.  The whole are is now ruled by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman – Harry Potter) who seeks the throne.

Therefore they seek refuge with a small bunch of outlaws Robin learns of the Sheriffs evilness.  Not to mention these outlaws hide in the forest using the myths of ghosts to help keep them safe.  Meanwhile Robin gets a reputation and uses it to help rid the rich of their money and give it to the poor.  Robin starts helping his outlaws by teaching skills and building them safer homes in the trees of the forest.  Most importantly the poor worship him for his good deeds whilst the Sheriff gets angered by Robin and his men.

Sheriff and the Throne.

The Sheriff likes being in charge and that will stop when King Richard Sean Connery- Dr No) returns from the crusades.  Equally important the Sheriff tries to secure his leadership he decides that the Kings cousin Lady Marian Dubois.  Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio – The Perfect Storm) is old friends with Robin and loves the good work he is doing.  So when the Sheriff implements his plan she is taken which fuels Robins plot to let good win.

I shall not do any more detail in threat of spoiling the film for those who havent seen it yet.  The music really does fit the scenes from happy and jaunty to deep and action like.  If you have seen the film you will know exactly what I am talking about.  Lastly if you haven’t I hope that this will make you want to see it and fall in love as well.

The songs
