In 2003 the cinema was graced by a film that was a mix of period drama and fiction, we are brought into a world of Pirates, a Governor’s Daughter, a Blacksmith and tales of ghostly curses when Young Will Turner a young Blacksmith who had been found afloat at sea as a child tries to save the woman he loves Elizabeth Swann who also happens to be the daughter of the town’s governor who was aboard the ship that found him, she also found a pirate’s coin which she has worn around her neck ever since.
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is a pirate with some unfortunate luck, he sails to town on a sinking boat and happens to save the life of Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley) who faints due to a combination of the heat and her corset, he is then captured for his troubles and would be hung for his crimes as a pirate, he manages to escape but after a sword battle with will Turner a young Blacksmith (Orlando Bloom) he is again captured.
The action really starts when The Black Pearl a ship once owned by Captain Jack Sparrow sails into town to claim the gold coin that will free them from their curse after stealing a fortune that made them ghostly beings that cannot die, it just happens that to take the coin they have to take Miss Swann with them and this is where the battles of ships and pirate wits take off and pull you in for laughter, drama and spooky action.
I love the music in this film as it is made for the film but also the type of era it would have been set in, you get mainly an orchestral feel but it has been composed in a way that really fits the scenes and to really see what I mean please listen to the snippets I have chosen below which are a few of my favourite tracks.
