Soundtrack Sunday Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Soundtrack Sunday Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Turns 30

“Bueller?…Bueller?…Bueller?” It has been 30 years yesturday to be exact that Ferris (Matthew Broderick) took his infamous day off with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) and took the Windy City by storm. Written and Directed by the man who’s movies make up mine and may others childhoods John Hughes…man do we miss him. There was no actual soundtrack released for the movie, but there certainly were some musical numbers performed by Ferris.

So to refresh anyones memory or for those who (insert GASP here) have never seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off this is what you need to know. Ferris is your typical high school student who on a gorgeous Chicago day doesn’t want to go to school. There are so many other things he could be doing then taking a test in European Socialism. Ferris needs to come up with a plan to get out of school since this will be his 9th sick day in the semester. Ferris has become the master of playing sick as you can see from the opening monologue

Ferris once again gets out of school, now it is time to get some friends to join him. Cameron is “Dying” and  Sloane is already in school. Convincing Cameron he needs a day out and getting Sloane out of school will take some smarts that only Ferris can come up with.

Oh yes Mr. Rooney the principle who know’s Ferris is up to no good, but can’t seem to prove it. Also on Mr. Rooney’s side is Ferris’s own sister Jeanie who is stuck in school while Ferris has the day off and dealing with everyone wishing Ferris well. Now that Ferris, Sloane and Cameron are out of school what are they to do on a gorgeous Chicago day…how about taking Cameron’s father’s prized possession a 1961 Ferrari 250GT California out for a little joy ride? It is his fault that he didn’t lock the garage right?  So off to Chicago they go, they take in a Cubs game, go to the art museum, take in the panoramic views from the top of the Sear’s Tower and have a fancy lunch under someone else’s reservation…The Sausage King of Chicago Abe Froman

Mean while while all of this is happening Mr. Rooney is still trying to prove that Ferris is lying, Jeanie is also trying to prove the same thing and Cameron’s fathers Ferrari is going for a joyride by 2 creepy looking garage attendants. After lunch while walking around Chicago Ferris crashes the Von Steuben Parade and performs not 1 but 2 songs while on a parade float.

1st we have the Wayne Newton hit “Danke Schoen” followed by The Beatles “Twist and Shout”

Unfortunately that is the end of most of the music for the movie, but both songs will always remind me of this scene in the movie. So after a day of adventure in Chicago the gang has to head home before parents come home to find them really not sick in bed. There are still a few more shenanigans to come before the end “Ferris you’re my Hero”.

So I leave you with 1 more song from the movie Yello’s “Oh Yeah” not a lot of words to this song, but it truly is the Theme song to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I will leave you with 1 of my favorite quotes from the movie

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
