‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff in Early Development

SOA

Variety confirmed FX’s Sons of Anarchy biker drama is getting its own spinoff. SOA was created by Kurt Sutter and it ended after a seven-year run last December. The season finale drew 9.3 million viewers.

Sutter — whose Bastard Executioner bows Sept. 15 on the cable net — has long hinted at a SOA spinoff, which is now officially a possibility with a new development deal just secured for the offshoot.

Few details are known, as the series is in very early development, but the spinoff would focus on the Mayans motorcycle crew and would be set in the Northern California motorcycle club scene.

In the flagship series, the Mayans, the Oakland-based Hispanic gang, ran heroin factories and were involved in prostitution.

Sutter would serve as exec producer on the untitled project, though he is searching for a showrunner to run the day-to-day grind, as he will remain focused on Bastard, among other upcoming projects.

Casting details for the SOA spinoff aren’t available yet, and again, the show is only in the preliminary stages of development. If it does move forward, it will be produced for FX by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
