Shadowhunters – You Are Not Your Own Preview
Here we go folks. Time for our spoiler free look at this week’s upcoming episode of Shadowhunters – You Are Not Your Own.
After the body swap revelation at the end of Mea Maxima Culpa it’s a fairly safe bet to assume that this episode is going to be an emotional one, and you would be right. I ran a gauntlet of emotions. From screaming with rage to crying to cheering with glee, some more screaming and near heart-bursting happiness. This is an episode of revelations and surprises and a LOT of foreshadowing.
I’ve seen a lot of fans theorising about events that may or may not happen in this episode and I know that some have been right on the money, others less so. I can’t say any more than that without revealing major plot elements. You’ll have to wait and see which theories are right when the episode airs.
From the sneak peeks we have seen it’s pretty obvious that Alan Van Sprang and Harry Shum Jr. literally deserve every award going. They do incredible work portraying each other’s mannerisms and speech patterns. I think the only body swap I’ve seen on TV that was better than this was the Khlyen/D’Avin swap in the second season of Killjoys (which was INSANELY good). The ONLY gripe I have with this little body swap shenanigans is how did Valentine-In-Magnus know where Magnus’s loft is? I’m going to guess Iris the warlock must have told him from when she stole Magnus’s spell book. That’s the only explanation because Valentine doesn’t seem to know much of anything else about Magnus’s life.
There is a truly hilarious sight gag running through this episode regarding Simon’s shirt. I don’t know if it was deliberate or just a funny coincidence that made it into the episode but it did make me laugh quite a lot when I noticed it.
There is another scene that made me want to give out some awards later in the episode. It’s an exchange between Clary and Sebastian that blew me away with its intensity. Will Tudor is doing great things as Sebastian. I am really excited to see how things proceed with this character.
Oooh, one last thing before I sign off on this one. There are a lot of shipper moments. Those of you waiting for the book endgame ships, I think you’ll enjoy this episode.
