Shadowhunters Season 3
Last week we heard rumours of Freeform’s Shadowhunters getting a third season. We asked you to be patient just a week until Freeform made it official. We thought the announcement would be made at the Freeform Upfronts which happened in NYC this past Wednesday but after waiting for HOURS we were told there would be no renewal announcements. Then late Thursday an announcement was made that the cast would be doing a Facebook live chat at 9am PST/12ET on Friday, and they would be taking questions. I’m guessing an awful lot of people asked about Shadowhunters Season 3.
You want to see it? Of course you do!
So there you have it, straight from the horses goofy mouths we get our renewal confirmation. Also, how adorkable are our cast you guys? Trying to play it like they hadn’t been renewed. Did anyone fall for that? Or were you all too mesmerised by Harry going around and around on that skateboard thing?
If that’s not quite official enough for you, here’s the press release from Freeform!
‘SHADOWHUNTERS’ ENTERS ROUND THREE IN THE BATTLE OF GOOD VS. EVIL
AS FREEFORM PICKS UP A THIRD SEASON OF THE HIT SAGA SERIES
Freeform will be bringing back their hit original saga series “Shadowhunters” for a third season to air in 2018. The network announced the news today via a Facebook live interview with cast members from the Toronto-based set.
“Shadowhunters” returns for the second half of season two on MONDAY, JUNE 5 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. EDT), with Shadowhunters and Downworlders reeling from what happened at the New York Institute in the winter finale. As the rift between the two sides grows larger, the team and their Downworld friends and lovers are put in the middle of the dangerous divide. Torn between the Clave’s rules and what they feel is right, Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle struggle to help forge a new beginning. Relationships will be tested, a new Shadowhunter named Sebastian will join the fray and the Seelie Queen will step out of the shadows in the summer season.
“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, McG, Michael Reisz, Matt Hastings, Mary Viola, Martin Moszkowicz and Robert Kulzer. The series stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane.
So there we have it. Doubly official. Shadowhunters WILL be back for season 3. And season 3 will be 20 episodes again. It’s likely that it will happen in the same format as season 2, broken into two ten-episode chunks with one debuting in January and one in the summer.
We will of course keep you posted on anything Shadowhunters Season 3 related, as well as news on season 2B.
Don’t forget to check out our Hiatus Fanfic Contest, which runs until mid-May.
