Review Outlander – First Wife Season 3 Episode 8

Last week’s episode of Outlander – First Wife blew us all away. I know I was super excited to see how they aged Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson) 20 years and the interaction between Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jenny Fraser (Laura Donnelly). The show didn’t disappoint.

With this episode leading up to so much more, we decided to do this review a little different than before. This interview is going to be a review with a twist, the twist being a Q&A with our Brina, one of our many talented writers here at FANdemoniumNetwork.

So, Brina have you read the books?

Brina: I have only read the 1st two books. They are so long and wordy but good.

What did you want to see in this episode?

Brina: I thought it was an emotional roller coaster for both Claire and Jamie.

How shocked were you to find that Jamie married Laoghaire (Leer-ee)? Was your reaction different because she tried to kill Claire and is her nemesis?

Brina: I was in total shock to see he married that evil little brat. And it seems she is still an evil little brat. But as much as I hate her I can’t be mad her for wanting something so bad and finally getting it. But she shoulda known that Jamie NEVER loved her. He only loves his Claire.

Do you think that Claire finds some satisfaction in jabbing the syringe needle in Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) arse?

Brina: Hell yeah she did. As much as she love him, he hurt her and when we hurt like that, we always wanna hurt that person back even if its just a little needle in his butt. haha

Do you think it was Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) original intention to shoot Jamie or Claire?

Brina: that little evil brat totally was gunning for Claire

How did you like seeing more into the life of Jenny? We got to see a lot from her point of view this episode:

Brina: I thought it was pretty cool but man the hate she has for Claire is not right

Do you think Jenny is going to let go the answers that Claire gives for her 20 year absence?

Brina: No, she is going to hold it against her until she knows the truth

This is going to be a two part question. In your opinion do you think Claire should trust Jenny enough and tell her the truth about where she’s been and so on? Should Jenny know about Brianna (Sophie Skelton)?

Brina: Yes I think she should tell about all of it. Claire needs friends and Jenny is also family. Something Claire needs is family. I am a firm believer in the truth will set you free. So in Claire telling Jenny it would be freeing for both of them.

We all know about punishment when it comes to Outlander. Were you surprised that Jamie suggested to Ian Murray (Steven Cree) hard work for young Ian instead of having him flogged (as the usual punishment is)? Do you think Jamie was getting soft or just thinking of what Claire may do in 1968?

Brina: I think Jamie has been punishment enough in his lifetime. So I think he would have picked this “hard work” punishment over flogging regardless of Claire’s feeling or not. The fact that Ian didn’t really do anything wrong but lie a little bit. Flogging would have been harsh.

Were you happy, shocked or both to see Ned Gowan’s return to this episode Outlander – First Wife?

Brina: Yes, its cool to see some the older characters come back

Do you ever find yourself taking sides when Claire and Jamie fight? Is always the same side or do you waiver as it’s progressing?

Brina: I always waiver. It really depends on the fight/issue itself. With this fight I was on Claire side 100%. He should have told her right from the beginning when she asked him.

The flag shown on the pirate ship that kidnaps young Ian Murray (John Bell) had a Portuguese flag on it. Do you think it’s going to be that easy and obvious for Jamie and Claire to find the ship and Ian?

Brina: I really hope it is but I have a feeling its not going to be easy. Nothing for these two have been easy at all. It’s always the hard twisted road for them.

Random fact from Outlander – First Wife, to make Laoghaire looked aged, she wore the wig that Annette Badland (Mrs. Fitzgibbons) wore way back in season to make her looked aged for her role.
