Outlander First Look: Claire Introduces Brianna To Frank

Outlander First Look

Brianna, Meet Your 20th-Century Dad In This Outlander First Look!

EW has brought us an exclusive first look at season 3 of Outlander, we are so super excited. We get to see when Claire (Caitriona Balfe) gives birth to Brianna — her daughter with Jamie (Sam Heughan) — and introduces her to Frank (Tobias Menzies), the man who will raise her. Claire is back in 20th-century Boston because Jamie forced her to leave Scotland due to the impending Battle of Culloden.

“This is right after Claire gives birth to Brianna,” Balfe told EW exclusively. “Those scenes are wonderful because it’s a new beginning, but it’s so fraught with so many other things. Obviously, this is Jamie’s child, but Claire’s in a new time and believes that Jamie is dead. So she’s really trying to look forward and give her daughter a new life, a stable family. I think it’s difficult for both of them. Frank is coming to terms with his wife. He didn’t quite know what had happened. She disappeared and she’s back. They’re tentatively trying to see if they can patch things up and allow themselves to embrace a future together. They really do try, but it’s not quite that easy.”

When season 3 begins in 2017 on Starz, the action will begin with the historic battle — a significant departure from the start of Voyager, the third book in Diana Gabaldon’s book series on which the episodes are based. Jamie (Sam Heughan) goes mano a mano with his archenemy Jonathan Black Jack Randall (Menzies), the British soldier who raped him in prison back in season 1. The two will engage in a dramatic duel, a detail that may throw fans of Gabaldon’s best-selling books. (Voyager starts with a war-weary Jamie having almost no recollection of the 1746 battle that marked the end of the Scottish Clan system).
