Music Monday – Shadowhunters

Since tonight sees the return of Shadowhunters we figured what better time than to check out some of the best music from the show so far on this Music Monday.

The first piece of music we heard in Shadowhunters was Monsters by Ruelle. This accompanied the opening sequence where we first were introduced to Alec, Izzy, Jace and Clary. Just listening to it I can picture those three badasses stalking their shapeshifting demon prey through the dark streets of New York.

Ruelle is the singer behind some of the most iconic music moments in Shadowhunters so far. That includes the haunting song, This Is The Hunt, used in the opening credits.

The opening title sequence has been extended in season 2 and you get to hear more of this gorgeous song.

One other standout Ruelle track has to be War of Hearts, the song playing as Alec leaves Lydia at the altar to go to Magnus in the episode Malec.

One of my favourite moments of the early episodes came in episode 3, Dead Man’s Party, with Jace showing Clary how to use the Seraph blade. The music during that sizzling scene is an instrumental called Tearing Us Apart by Honora.

This next track is kind of a heartbreaker. Remember when Simon “died” and was buried to become a vampire? That track playing as Clary buries her best friend is so aptly titled – it’s called Hurts Like Hell by Fleurie.

Kicking the mood up a little, remember when Clary went to the alternate universe and met everyone at Java Jace? That chirpy little indie rock number is Free by Before the Brave. Anything that reminds me of Jace looking so carefree and sexy is a definite winner for me!

One of my favourite moments in episode 1 is the Clary and Izzy training sequence from the first sneak peek. Not only does this scene expand the Institute and give us a truly killer girl power moment but the music is amazing. The track is Certified Air Raid Material by edIT.

I’m gonna finish this Music Monday up with Heart of the Darkness by Sam Tinnesz. This is the track that’s soundtracked our lives for the last few months in the season 2 trailers.

If you want to check out more of the tracks from the show then you can follow Shadowhunters music on twitter, subscribe to the youtube channel or check out tunefind.

See you guys at 8/7c tonight for the premiere of season 2 of Shadowhunters on Freeform. We WILL be live tweeting. You can also check out our spoiler free review here and check back after the episode for our recap!
