Special Events Throughout MegaCon Orlando Weekend to Benefit Equality Florida

Who/What:

MegaCon™, the Southeast’s largest fan conventions with shows in both Orlando and Tampa Bay, has come together with Marc Andreyko’s (DC Comics) Love is Love project to host a weekend of programming to honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre during MegaCon Orlando, May 25-28, 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center. The proceeds will benefit Equality Florida, Florida’s civil rights leader working for the LGBT community.

A gallery space at MegaCon will feature donated art from Love is Love by top comic talents. On the evening of Friday, May 26th a fundraiser cocktail reception and book signing will take place, bringing together some of the comic industry’s top talent including, but not limited to, Tom King, Scott Snyder, Gail Simone, Cat Staggs, Mitch Gerads, Jason Aaron, Phil Jimenez and Dan Didio, as well as Love is Love project creator Marc Andreyko. Programming will run throughout the weekend leading up to a live art auction, held on Saturday, May 27th, which will be open to the public. This is a rare chance to purchase a one-of-a-kind creation from some of the industry’s leading creators.

All funds raised will benefit Equality Florida, Florida’s civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Funds raised at this event will support their work in the LGBT community.

Details/History:

Following the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, a project in the comic community named Love is Love began to take shape. Spearheaded by comic book and screen writer Marc Andreyko (DC Comics), a group of more than 300 comic book creators contributed to the creation of a comic anthology, the proceeds of which go to the victims, survivors and their families via Equality Florida. Launched in January 2017 with Marc Andreyko appearing on The Seth Meyers Show, the book received an overwhelming critical response and has gone into multiple printings. An exclusive printing will be made available at MegaCon Orlando.
