Interview With The Vampire reboot to star Jared Leto?
In the last few days the rumour mill has been ramping up with regards to a reboot of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, starting with a new version of Interview With The Vampire.
Director Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) posted a photo on his instagram of the front page of his apparently completed script for the reboot and then just days later tweeted this
Lestat – there can be only one. #JaredLeto pic.twitter.com/CsFqtYw9Na

Now, it’s unclear whether this is just Boone’s wish for his Lestat or whether it’s a solid piece of casting info, I guess time will tell on that. Opinions on social media are divided, mostly on the need for a reboot of the movie at all but also on Leto as immortal anti-hero/wannabe rockstar Lestat de Lioncourt.
Further inspection of Boone’s twitter reveals this little tidbit
Our film is based on The Vampire Lestat which has an IWTV section. We hope QOTD and PL will follow. Not a remake.https://t.co/EMo4bqeDmZ

So according to Boone, and that front page of the script, despite the title this is NOT a remake of Interview With The Vampire. It is mostly going to be The Vampire Lestat with a bit of Interview thrown in (presumably for backstory on the characters). The Vampire Lestat focuses on, uh, the vampire Lestat trying to make it as a rockstar to reveal the presence of vampires to the world and seduce lots of people to his side.
Boone is a pretty busy guy, his social media and imdb list a number of current projects in pre-production, including a New Mutants title and a new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand.
Academy Award winner Jared Leto is about to be in multiplexes everywhere as the Joker in Suicide Squad, but for those of you who might be unfamiliar with his other side, he’s also a musician. Lead singer and multi-instrumentalist for band 30 Seconds to Mars (alongside older brother Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic) he is known for his sometimes messianic tendencies, going so far as to have the slogan “Yes This Is A Cult” in videos and on merchandise.
He also doesn’t seem to age… I mean…this is Jared back in My So Called Life back in 1994
And this is Jared this year.
That’s a 22 year gap people… He might ACTUALLY be a vampire!!!
So, what do you guys think? Are you excited about this new chapter in the Vampire Chronicles or would you rather they left it alone? Do you think Leto will make a good Lestat or have you got someone better in mind? What about other characters – Louis, Akasha, Marius – lets have your dream cast for the movie!
