Harrison Ford Back as Indiana Jones

Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones

Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are set to be reunited once again in the long-awaited fifth installment in the Indiana Jones  series.  The still unnamed film has a scheduled release date of July 19, 2019.  This comes 11 years after the last movie, Indiana Jones and The Temple of The Crystal Skull (2008).

The first movie in the series, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), featured Ford as archeologist Indiana Jones, hired by the US government to search for and find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis could.  The film grossed approximately $242,374,454 in the US.  Three years later, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom hit theaters, again following Indy’s adventures.  Even though the budget was more for the second installment, it didn’t fair as well in sales. After a 5 year hiatus, Lucasfilms released Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and then the fourth installment was released in 2008.

Disney chair Alan Horn said: “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

With Spielberg set to direct again and Lucas produce, how will the fifth film be received by audiences?  It was rumored originally that younger actors were being sought after to replace Ford, but in the end they decided to stick with the original lead.
