Game of Thrones Season 6 recap

Warning: This Game of Thrones contains many spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Game of Thrones season 7 is coming back to taunt us in little under a month, and ahead of the highly anticipated new season we thought we should recap over season 6.

The 7th season will consist of 7 episodes *cries* and will feature some of the longest episodes in the history of the show that will see humanity in a war with the White Walkers as a Queen returns to reclaim her throne.

Jon Snow’s Parents

After much speculation in the novels and the TV show, it was revealed that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Aisling Franciosi)  are the real parents of Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), making him one of the heirs to the Iron Throne.

The massive revelation came in one of Bran’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) flashbacks as he trained with the Three-Eyed Crow.

Of course, Jon doesn’t know any of this yet, so it all hinges on whether Bran can get to Jon and let him know the news.

Jon Snow Comes Back from the Dead

This really wasn’t a very well-kept secret with media leaking his rise from the dead before it happened. This has spurred HBO to not release any screeners for the upcoming season because critics can’t keep a secret.

Jon came back from the dead in the season 6 opener with a little help from Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and the Lord of Light.

He’s also no longer the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch after renouncing his oath following his resurrection.

Jon Snow and Sansa Stark Team Up

After fleeing Winterfell and the clutches of the psychotic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) with the help of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) is finally reunited with her half-brother.

The pair then planned to take back Winterfell by fighting Ramsay in what was one of the most epic battle scenes in Game of Thrones. The Battle of the Bastards.

Despite having the armies of the Wildlings and The Men of the North on his side, it was only when Littlefinger brought the full force of the Vale that Ramsay was defeated…. whoop whoop.

Ramsay Bolton was killed off *cue fanfare*

Much like the death of Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) at the Purple Wedding, viewers were having parties when Sansa set Ramsay’s psycho dogs on him and let them rip him to pieces. It was a grisly end for a detestable character.

Think we need to watch and see whether taking Ramsay’s life has given Sansa the taste for blood.

Euron is the King of the Iron Islands

Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) is shaping up to be the new big bad of season 7. He killed his own brother before talking his kingdom from him.

He was also on a crusade to win over Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) using his manly persuasions. Theon and Yara (Gemma Whelan) got there first and teamed up with her. Will Euron now go to the Lannisters and team up with them?

Sam goes to Oldtown

On Jon’s orders Sam Tarly (John Bradley-West)  *awwwww* went home to Highgarden with his Gilly (Hannah Murray).

After getting a frosty welcome, Sam and Gilly made their way to the Citadel in Oldtown, where he began his training as a Maester.

I really hope Sam gets a good story line in season 7. He is such a lovely character and really deserves to kick some ass.

Daenerys Targaryen teams up with Theon and Yara Greyjoy

She’s already joined forced with Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), but the Mother of Dragons made another alliance with Theon and Yara after they turned up in Meereen,

Daenerys Targaryen returns to Westeros

After 6 years, the finale of season 6 saw Daenerys finally touching down with her Dragons, in her kingdom following her voyage across the Narrow Sea.

Daenerys Targaryen

Cersei sits on the Iron Throne

In the most explosive finale to date, Cersei  (Lena Headey) disposes of her enemies using a cache of wildfire to blow up the Sept of Baelor and all her enemies with it.

Despite her son Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) ending his life by committing suicide, it looks like Cersei was quite pleased with herself as she’s crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Arya is back in Westeros

Following her training with the Faceless Man and nearly being killed by the Waif (Faye Marsay), Arya (Maisie Williams)  returns home to Westeros.

The trained assassin killed off Walder Frey (David Bradley) after coming back to the Seven Kingdoms in revenge for his perpetrating the Red Wedding in which her brother Robb (Richard Madden) and mother Caitlyn (Michelle Fairley) were slaughtered.

The Night King is coming

After the heavy defeat at Hardhome, the Night King and the White Walkers were on their way to take over Westeros.

You can be assured that winter is finally here and there will be an epic battle between light and dark in season 7.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16th and will be simulcast at 2am on Sky Atlantic in the UK.

Let us know in the comments below what you hope will happen in season 7!
