Drea de Matteo joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

So with the return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. looming large (March 3rd, get it in your diaries now if you haven’t already) we are getting more and more info about the back half of the season.

We’ve had the news that we are getting a sexy new Inhuman in the form of The Tomorrow People‘s Luke Mitchell and last week we heard that Lady Sif will be returning to kick some ass on Midgard and team up with our favourite Agents.

Last week also brought the news that the fabulous Drea de Matteo would be joining the cast in the remainder of the season. The official news from Marvel says that Matteo will play Karla Faye Gideon, a Gifted woman with a grudge to bear against S.H.I.E.L.D. who joins forces with Skye’s father, Cal. Intriguingly there is a Karla Faye Gideon in the Marvel Comic Universe but she is not Gifted, she is a normal human being but she DOES have a link to Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. This poses the question will we perhaps see Matteo cross over to the Netflix Original Series Universe that kicks off with Daredevil in April?

Drea appeared at Shock Pop Comic Con in Florida this past weekend and the wonderful Jenn was able to grab a word with her. She congratulated Drea on her role in S.H.I.E.L.D. and asked what we could expect. Matteo’s response was (and I’m paraphrasing here cos the woman dropped some major f-bombs) that she is only in a few episodes, we will barely recognize her but she’s definitely there. I expect this may have something to do with her Gifted nature, but Jenn says that Drea was keeping pretty tight-lipped and didn’t give much away.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on March 3rd at 8pm on ABC.
