CW Renews 11 Shows including The Flash, TVD and SPN

TVD-The CW

The CW network has announced they will be renewing eleven of their most popular series for the upcoming year.  The shows included in the early renewal announcement include The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, iZombie, Reign, Supernatural, and The 100.

“The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016–2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”

With the success of the superhero and sci-fi genres in the past few years, it is not a shock that these shows are again renewing.  In this past season, we have even seen some of the shows main characters cross over into another.  Stephen Amell from Arrow crossing over onto The Flash was a big hit amongst the followers of those series.  There was also a two-hour cross over event between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

Supernatural, on its 12th season, has now surpassed The CW’s longest running show, 7th Heaven.

Premiere dates and episode counts have yet to be released.
