Comic Review – The Incredible Bun

Comic Review – The Incredible Bun

Not content with wheeling out the brilliant Cicadian Rhythms, the Madius Comics lot have another new release on the horizon. The Incredible Bun will debut at this year’s Thought Bubble convention in Leeds on the 22nd/23rd September.

The Incredible Bun?

The Incredible Bun is a great all ages comic about a giant bunny rabbit, cast out from his home, trying to make his way in the world. He catches the eye of a dodgy fight promoter after defending himself against some nasty bullies and soon becomes the hottest thing on the animal MMA circuit. Yes. Really. Honestly, what is it about reviewing Madius Comics that makes me type things I never thought I would?

Is it any good?

In a word – YES! This latest effort is written by regular Madius scribe Michael Sambrook, with art by one of the new additions to the Madius crew, Rosie Packwood. She also coloured the first 11 pages, with Alexa Renee taking over the colours on the rest. The sweet story really struck a chord, as did the artwork. I think Rosie is going to be a true asset to Madius Comics, and one to watch! It’s lettered by some bloke you’ve probably never heard of. Rob Jones? Must be new…

This new, expanded version continues the story, letting us meet a few more of the main players. We get a real taste of Biggman and his horrible dog biscuits, and the mysterious Kat. Just who is she working for?

The story rolls along, told by a mystery narrator who, I presume, we will meet in the next issue along with the ninjas we’ve been promised side-eyes Madius Comics. While the eponymous Bun is the centre of the story, he’s also very much just sort of there while things happen to him.

Which is totally understandable considering he’s a mute giant rabbit who doesn’t understand the world. I truly hope that as this SERIES side-eyes again continues, Bun will become more savvy about the world around him and his place in it, rather than letting it happen to him.

A (tiny) word of caution

Now, while Madius are pitching this as an all ages comic, there is a smattering of violence, and at least twice I felt myself wanting to just give Bun a big hug. You might want to read it through first before letting your littles get their paws on it.

After Thought Bubble, The Incredible Bun will be available for purchase wherever you get your Madius Comics fix.

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
