Paperbacks and Inkstains Kickstarter
Consider this instalment of Clare’s Comics Catalogue both a promo post and apology. I have been sitting on the press release for the Paperbacks and Inkstains kickstarter since last month, but with one thing and another I haven’t posted until now. The 11th hour. For which I am truly sorry. Please let me introduce you, once again, to the frankly bonkers world of Madius Comics. Those techno-doctors at Madius have outdone themselves for this kickstarter. Pulling together all 6 issues of Papercuts and Inkstains into one massive collected volume. Over 200 pages and now in frankly astounding technicolour!
Now, I know I’ve plugged P&I on previous instalments of this column so why, I hear you asking, should you care about this?
Over to the Madius guys who explain far more eloquently than I ever could.
If you’ve already been reading from the start, and you’re wondering why you should double dip? Well, let us yell at you why. Paperbacks and Inkstains will see every strip collected into one, glorious book, remastered, rejigged and presented in glorious, CMYK COLOUR-O-RAMA. COLOUR! You asked for it and they listened. The entire book will be in FULL COLOUR for the very first time, See the stories you already know and love brought to an all new level of visual brilliance. Let the sweet, sweet colours melt all resistance from your soul. Give in to it, you know it makes sense.
Currently working their magic colouring the pages are:
-
Nick Gonzo
-
Angela Sprecher
-
Rosie Packwood
-
Rory Donald
-
Darren Smith
-
Jim Lavery
-
Bob Turner
If you need further convincing, check this out. First we have a page from the story Cast Adrift as originally published in black and white.
and now compare that to the re-tooled, coloured version
I’m sure you’ll agree that it becomes a whole other creature in colour. Glimpses of some of my faves from the 6 issues so far have me eager for this kickstarter to finish so I can read everything again in colour.
For example the utterly demented Eton Mess drawn by Darren Stephens. The super talented Alexa Renee is currently nailing the colours on all those icky tentacles and flying eyeballs. Don’t believe me? Check this out
Pizza AND comics on a Saturday? Aww yeeaaaah ? Coloring up this wicked tale by @Dikiminster and @madiuscomics for the P&I collection! ? pic.twitter.com/Mma71YiHrn

Seriously awesome right? Although I’m less convinced by chips on pizza…
Now down to the nitty gritty. There are just 48 hours left on this kickstarter as I write this, and the guys need just £105 more to achieve their goal. I know that some of you MUST want to back this. You get over 200 pages of coloured comics madness, plus there are some seriously cool goodies available for backers.
The Goodies
£25 could get you one of ten exclusive linocut prints like these from Nick Gonzo, as well as the collected Paperbacks and Inkstains.

£50 gets you the comic, a bunch of prints, an enamel pin badge, an exclusive P&I t-shirt AND a handful of POGS! For those either too young or not cool enough to remember POGS… I am very sorry. Other reward levels include signed original artwork and commissions from some crazy talented people!
UPDATE:
Shortly after I posted this last night, the project achieved its funding goal. So massive congratulations to the Madius guys on that achievement. In a joking comment on facebook I suggested with 48 hours to go, maybe they should focus on some stretch goals… and lo and behold they have. There are 2 rewards each at £4250 and £4500. I think £4500 is totally doable with 37 hours to go. So please do check out the project, the stretch goals below and think about backing it before the time runs out!
So, if we hit £4250, we’ll sort out bookmarks for ALL physical backers, if we hit £4500 then maybe signature cards for all Physical Backers. If we hit the £4250 mark, then ALL backers will get Dave Haliwood’s incredible 100% Biodegradable issues on top of our huge anthology, and we’ll also send out the original black and whites as PDF’s to all as well. If we hit £4500 then Mike and I will do a drunk reading of Profits of Doom for you to download, enjoy and hold us to ransom with…
So there shouldn’t be anything else to stop you from getting to Kickstarter and throwing some money at Paperbacks and Inkstains. Right? Give us a shout if you do back it, we’d love to hear what you think!
