Clare’s Comics Catalogue – Late Knights: A Sense of Steel
I’m back. I know, I know, nothing for months and then 2 comic posts in the space of a couple of days. Late Knights: A Sense of Steel is the latest offering from the brilliant Jon Laight of Level 8 Comics. Unlike his previous outing, the super-powered revenge story Brethren Born, this is an all ages adventure for the whole family. Jon hopes to encourage a new generation of comics talent and has tailored his reward tiers to that end. More on that to come!
So what is it about? Well the Late family (Late…Laight?!?) are descended from the Knights Templar. By day they are a normal family doing normal things, but by night they have secret adventures. Focusing on the 3 Late children, Elizabeth, William and Victoria, Late Knights: A Sense of Steel blends every day situations like handling bullies with history and fictional characters.
While the comic was being produced, Jon ran a contest for children aged 5-15 (his target audience for the comic) to create a character. 3 were chosen and have been immortalised by artist Matt Strott. I’ve been following this one with interest since Matt came on board. He’s posted progress shots on his twitter and instagram over the last few months. What they have created is a fun, colourful comic that I am sure will appeal to children and parents alike.
The Kickstarter
The kickstarter launches at midday on Friday 18th August and features some really fun perk tiers. For £10 you get the comic, two black and white prints for your children (or yourself) to colour in and two art prints. £30 gets you the comic, art prints, a t-shirt AND some of Matt’s original art. Jon has also got something extra special for those who get in early. If you back the kickstarter (at any reward level) in the first 48 hours you will get an early bird exclusive pin badge of a Late Knight family member. You also get a pdf/jpg set of the pin ups so you’re going to want to get involved early.
The comic is completely finished and ready to go to print so there should not be any delay in getting it into the hands of backers. Jon has also prepped stretch goal rewards ALREADY that he will reveal when he gets close to their funding levels.
