‘Captain America: Civil War’ Cast List and Plot Revealed

Production of Captain America: Civil War officially started in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday. Marvel Studios released the official plot summary along with a cast list that might as well make this an Avengers film. However, there’s one certain friendly neighborhood Spider-Man that is missing.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo return with Captain America: Civil War, and it appears to very much be a warm-up for their taking over the helm of the Avengers movies. In addition to the return of Captain America and Iron Man, the film features the entire new squad of heroes from the end of Age of Ultron plus Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa/Black Panther and Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man.

There are also heroes and villains returning from Captain America: Winter Soldier for Civil War. Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier will be in the film along with Sharon Carter/Agent 13 and Sam Wilson/Falcon. Meanwhile, Frank Grillo returns as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones.

Captain America: Civil War is bringing back some older features while adding news ones as well. William Hurt’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from The Incredible Hulk crops up while The Hobbit’s Martin Freeman is confirmed for an unannounced role.

So what could this wealth of Marvel characters possibly be doing in Captain America: Civil War? Here’s the official synopsis for the film.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.”

Missing in all of this though is Spider-man. Marvel recently reached a deal with Sony to bring the wall-crawler into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character played a key role in the comic book version of Civil War, so it was expected that the film would try to workossible that Spider-Man is just not announced yet because the role has not been cast and Marvel wants to save his inclusion for a spcial announcement later.
