Colton Haynes, who played Roy Harper on Arrow as a guest star at first then becoming a series regular, left at the end of last season, gifting his Arsenal costume to Thea Queen, who altered it and became Speedy.
It’s time to let the red threads out once more, as Haynes will return, if only as a guest star, this season. The actor announced it himself on twitter Friday afternoon.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed the return, and executive producer Marc Guggenheim said,
“We are beyond thrilled that Colton will be returning to Arrow this season. It was always our intention to have him return following his departure last season, but it was a matter of finding the right storyline to pull it off.” He also said exactly when Haynes – and Roy – will return, as “that opportunity presented itself in episode 412 and we can’t wait for the fans to see this reunion.”
That episode should be shortly after the winter break. As to why he’s coming back, it probably has something to do with Thea’s current disposition – slightly murderous because of her time in the Lazarus Pit.
