Netflix’s Daredevil series is impressing more than just the entertainment community.

The Marvel Studios show, which has received rave reviews across the board, has now caught the attention of The American Foundation for the Blind. On Thursday The American Foundation awarded Daredevil star Charlie Cox during their 19th Annual Helen Keller Achievement Awards in New York City.

Cox received the award for his portrayal of the blind titular character and his alter-ego, lawyer Matt Murdock. While not blind himself, Cox said in interviews that he tried his best to move and function as a legally blind person would.

“Since the show has been released, I’ve had a great number of emails and letters from people in the blind community experiencing degrees of vision loss,” Cox said in his acceptance speech. “I had one particular stranger in London who was understandably stressed by her decreased vision.”

According to Variety, Cox recalled that the woman was stressed that her lost vision would result in lost independence. “I remember thinking that that is actually far away from the truth,” he said.

Cox will reprise the role of Matt Murdock and Daredevil when Daredevil returns. A premiere date for season two has yet to be announced.
