Lin-Manuel Miranda set to leave show July 9th, but says “I’m a be playing Hamilton for the rest of my life”
Lin-Manuel Miranda has named the successor to the throne, so to speak. Javier Muñoz, Lin’s current alternate, will be replacing the writer/actor in the Tony Award winning Broadway production of Hamilton in the title role of Alexander Hamilton when he departs the show on July 9th. Lin took to twitter today to answer fans questions regarding a number of matters related to his departure. Yes, the #Ham4Ham show will continue. Not only that, but Lin announced that they will be DOUBLING the number of seats available in the lottery, which allows the opportunity to purchase seats for the show for only $10. No, his departure doesn’t mean he’ll never step into the roll again. “I’m the next in that line, kids. I’m a be playing Hamilton for the rest of my life. Til I need help jumping on the desk. For real,” he said on twitter. Given this news, the lottery’s popularity isn’t likey to dwindle anytime soon.
Most important, however, was the revelation that the original cast would be filmed performing the show prior to his departure!
“So far @USATODAY is the only one not burying the lede:
We’re filming the original cast before I go.
WE GOT YOU. https://t.co/O7Vo9LhF7O “
This is a huge relief to the many fans who are unable to see the show at the Richard Rodgers Theater before July. There is no word yet on when or how this recording will be released.
