Season Premiere of Houdini & Doyle – The Maggie’s Redress
Last night Fox premiered the highly anticipated mystery adventure drama Houdini & Doyle. Houdini & Doyle – The Maggie’s Redress kept me guessing on who did it and who may be next in this paranormal drama. The writers weaved and swayed, no matter how hard I tried I didn’t see what was coming next. There was drama, facts, and even funny scenes, that kept me wanting more and more.
Houdini & Doyle is a mystery adventure drama following two great men of the 20th Century – Harry Houdini (Michael Weston), master magician, escape artist and paranormal debunker; and Arthur Conan Doyle (Stephen Mangan), prolific writer, creator of Sherlock Holmes and paranormal aficionado – who grudgingly join forces with New Scotland Yard to investigate unsolved and inexplicable crimes with a supernatural slant.
Canadian actress Rebecca Liddiard stars as Constable Adelaide Stratton, whose character is the first female constable ever to work for the London Metropolitan Police Force.
In the series, Houdini, Doyle and Stratton are tasked with the cases that nobody else can solve. It challenges their sense of what is real and what is not. Houdini is a skeptic, while Doyle believes in the unseen. Their diverse viewpoints make solving crime a challenge and often Stratton is put in the middle.
Last night’s episode of Houdini & Doyle – The Maggie’s Redress we met our trio for the first time. The banter, and jibbing was amazing. One may say Sir Arthur’s head is in the clouds and Houdini is a realist to balance out the duo we have a saucy intelligent woman in Constable Adelaide Stratton.
Houdini’s name carries weight and Sir Arthur is known in his own right, and the constable is brought on to oversee the men. She is way ahead of her times, being a police officer and her fellow officers and superiors let her know their displeasure with her, that only makes her more determined to do her job. Below is a glimpse from last night episode Houdini & Doyle – The Maggie’s Redress:
Houdini, who does his slight of hand, can only believe the facts, and sir Arthur seeks advice from a fortune teller, that can see the unseen, all whilst our Constable does the actual investigating and police work, for which she is trained. The nuns being nuns, threw me off from the start as the “who-done-it”. The writers kept me guessing as to who was the killer and if ghosts really exist from start to finish. Brilliant writing!
Ghosts don’t exist, or do they? The preview above has Houdini up in arms and Doyle amused. The trio each play a part to complete the whole.
I loved how they all played well and off each other as they have to deal with nuns in a creepy house. This is was the first episode, I cannot wait to see what next week’s episode will bring.
A little truth, a little fact, Houdini name dropping, and a lot of paranormal adventures awaits us this season.
