David Morse & Thomas Wright, talk about their roles in the upcoming series Outsiders

This is our land. This is our blood. Outsiders is coming to WGN America in 2016.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with the amazing and talented cast of WGN America’s new show Outsiders, which included David Morse (Big Foster), Ryan Hurst (Little Foster), Gillian Alexy (G’Winn Farrell), Kyle Gallner (Hasil), Thomas M. Wright (Sheriff Wade Houghton), Christina Jackson (Sally-Ann) as well as the creative force behind this show and many others Peter Mattei and Peter Tolan.

David-Morse-Thomas-Wright-OutsidersSitting down with David Morse for the first time face to face had to be the most intimidating moments of the very early press junket I was attending. I mean it’s DAVID MORSE! David Morse is 6’4″ and one of the most talented actors I have seen in a long time. He had me shaking in my boots when he was Michael Tritter, in House, giving ‘ol Dr House a dose of his own medicine, Lt. Terry Coulson in Treme, and let’s not forget him as Brutus ‘Brutal’ Howell in the Green Mile.  Along side David was the very talented and charismatic Thomas Wright. Thomas quickly put me at ease when he was pondering and talking about the play on words with FANdemonium Network, how could I not be put at ease listening to his sexy Australian accent?!? But I digress, the interview was short sweet and simple, and I was happily surprised and impressed, when David gave so much praise and credit to the those working behind the scenes of this hit drama.

FANdemonium Network: David, you are virtually unrecognizable in your role as Big Foster, did you have to do anything in particular to prepare for it?

David Morse: “Listen there are a lot of things that come together to make me that way. Hair and makeup, and all that and a lot of very talented people who help make that transformation happen. But let’s not forget it’s a whole new world we are entering, that’s both creative and created, but it’s also a world where Thomas, is from this Appalachian Kentucky world. It’s like a hybrid of this distant clan”

Thomas was quick to interject his perspective on the background and the Farrells.

Thomas Wright: “It’s like a distillation, it’s like you take a bunch of these real phenomenon, that are happening in a place like Appalachia, and distill it down to a group like the Farrells   just an embodiment of it.”

FANdemonium Network: “Thomas, your character get scared and a little timid, when just the name of the Farrells, is mention (Thomas gives a smirk) can you tell me anymore about that or the history?”

Thomas Wright: “Well there is a deep history there, a deep childhood fear. In this first season of this series I think you are looking into a people that are really caught in a conflict with themselves, caught in a lot of conflict with their past and in their own communities. The man that I am playing is dealing with stuff to do with the loss of his father when he was very young, the loss of a lot of people in his life, and so from the point of being a young child having these terrible things happen associated with these people it kind of unravels as the story is told.”
