2015 NHL “All-Star” Game

The NHL All-Star game is upon us, but it seems that the stars are not coming out to play.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby will miss the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game, executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford said Thursday.

According to a statement on the team’s website,

Crosby has been playing with an unspecified lower-body injury and will need about a week to heal.

Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin, also dealing with a lower-body injury, was ruled out of the All-Star Game earlier in the day. According to Rutherford, Malkin re-aggravated a lingering injury during a 3-2 overtime loss to thePhiladelphia Flyers. Malkin missed parts of the second and third periods, but returned for overtime. He did not play Wednesday in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

“With [Malkin], he won’t be ready to play right after the break,” Rutherford told the Tribune-Review on Thursday. “It’s probably an injury that will take a little time to heal.”

Goalies Jimmy Howard (Detroit Red Wings), Pekka Rinne (Nashville Predators) and Sergei Bobrovsky of the host Columbus Blue Jackets have also been ruled out of the game.
